In order to flush Netscape 8 from your PC and restore XML rendering to Internet Explorer, Microsoft has recommended this work-around.

Step 1: Uninstall Netscape 8.x

"Unfortunately if Netscape 8 remains installed then the registry key is continually rewritten," wrote Dave Massy, the chief of the Microsoft IE development team, on the group's blog. "So [the following] is an essential step if you are to be able to view XML content in IE."

Step 2: Select RUN from the Start menu.

Step 3: Enter "regedit" (without the quotes) and press Enter

Step 4: Locate the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/Plugins/Extension

Step 5: Highlight and right-click the node titled "xml" and select Delete

Step 6: Restart Internet Explorer
